How does the City determine the street sweeping schedule?

The city of Roanoke has approximately 1,100 lane miles of streets. The purpose of street sweeping/cleaning is to maintain public rights-of-way to create a positive image and promote safety and environmental quality throughout the city. The overall schedule for sweeping the City streets is as follows: 1) Each residential street once every four months; 2) Arterial streets each month; and 3) the Central Business District (downtown) Streets at night, three nights a week on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday

A two-month “Residential Street Sweeping Map Schedule” is available on www.roanokeva.gov under the Stormwater Division. Factors such as weather, changing seasonal conditions and equipment performance affect how closely this schedule can be followed.
