How may I obtain a "Big Blue" container?

Each household receives one trash can (“Big Blue”) from the City. A can is assigned to each home address by use of a serial number. Residents should NOT take cans when they move. Residents moving to the City should have a can at their new residence. If Solid Waste Management staff is aware that a house is vacant, it will pick up the “Big Blue” container and place it in storage until a new owner moves in.  Up to one additional container may be purchased from the City for $63.00 plus tax; that container will become the property of the purchaser.

All requests for “Big Blue” containers will be serviced by the Solid Waste Management Container Distributor for appropriate action.  If the citizen is requesting a container for a new home, the Container Distributor will deliver a new “big blue” container to the homeowner.  If the request is from the current home owner with a missing container,  the Container Distributor will bring out a new “big blue” container for the homeowner but will first search the neighborhood to see if the original container is located somewhere on the street through verification of the serial numbers.

Property owners must pay for the replacement of severely damaged cans due to neglect.
